New Release - November 2008
2007 Cabernet Franc | Amigoni Vineyards - Missouri
The perfect storm…
The 2007 harvest almost didn't happen. They called it the "Easter Massacre," a freak weather event that caused billions of dollars in damage across the Eastern US. We had the fourth warmest March in 118 years, which led to an extremely early bud break and subsequent blooming of the grapevines. But up in Alaska they were experiencing the coldest March in 104 years. A peculiar weather pattern was blocking the southern movement of cold air from Alaska and the Arctic. But this dam broke in early April and a massive cold air front moved to the Midwest. The temperatures from April 4-10 were 10-20 degrees below normal. Over 1,500 temperature records were tied or broken.
Easter weekend April 7-8, was the final blow, temperature plunged to 26 degrees with strong winds. Our Chardonnay shoots were six inches long, and our Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon had two-inch shoots. The shoots with flowers turned brown wilted. But it's hard to keep a good vine down, and a few days later, the secondary shoots began to spring to life in our hearty Cabernet Franc. We harvested enough of this determined varietal to make one single barrel from our vineyard.
The wine after the storm…
The Missouri Cabernet Franc features fruit from our estate vineyard, Amigoni Vineyards in Centerview, MO. The wine is very rich and bold on the palate. The wine was aged in Missouri American oak barrels for 12 months, creating a true Midwestern original. The forward black cherry flavors wrap around a subtle dark chocolate finish. This wine compares favorably to rich Italian wines that have some chewiness and tobacco flavors.
30 cases; $25/bottle; 10% discount by the case - $270.00
Sparkling Chardonnay
Ok, we were trying to filter a batch of Chardonnay just right to make it more fruity and it didn’t work out. So we have about 30 cases of Chardonnay that has a small amount of bubbles. We thought the holidays would be a good time to have a great sale on this “Sparkling” Chardonnay. We also wanted to make a little room in the tasting room, so we have it priced to sell.
Sparkling Chardonnay; $5/bottle; Case price - $50.00
Only 30 cases. When it is gone it is gone!
